Day 17. Hamptons

From new York, it is a 2 hour drive to the Hamptons

This morning started SLOWLY!!! One by one, the house woke up, and surveyed the scene from the day before. It takes a lot of effort to make such a beautiful thanksgiving feast and there was still some tidying up to be done! So, like little worker bees, we set about returning this beautiful house to what it was before New York and co invaded it for a lovely party. This house, in Orient, NY, is so beautiful and set in a field. It was so nice to wake up and be here. Peace and quiet at last!!!

As it is the day after thanksgiving day, it is what is commonly referred to as Black Friday, the day stores have the biggest sales of the year. The stores open form 10pm on Thanksgiving day and people go crazy trying to get the things they have wanted or wish to buy at a reduced price.  Cory had been very much looking forward to this, so off we went in our rented Lincoln SUV to Tanger outlet mall. This mall has everything from Polo Ralph Lauren, to Pottery Barn. Banana republic, and everything in between. The typical store has things at 40 or 50% off what they would normally be.

Car parks chokkers
Hampton jitney - shuttle bus
When we got to the mall, all of the carpark entrances were closed as the car parks were full. Police were directing traffic to a local sportsfield so that buses could transport shoppers into the mall. We were a bit sneaky and drove around a bit more and found an exit that was letting cars in. We got a great parking spot central to the mall, so did not have to worry about shuttle buses etc.

Not to be left out - Casey in Pottery Barn
While all of the stores had sales, some of them had super sales were things were at prices they never had been before. The Sony store was selling 42 inch flat screen Bravias for 800 bucks. People were going ballistic for all this crap, though I dont think there were as many shoppers as had been anticipated. There were long lines outside shops like Ugg Australia and handbag stores like Kate Spade. I was looking for a nice new cashmere sweater, but could not find one. Maybe in New York later in the week?
Queue for UGG Australia - wierd
A mixmaster for 179? - outrageous!!

We went through so many stores and found lots of treasures. I was feeling the effects of jet lag while we were going through Williams and Sonoma and felt like I could collapse. exhausted.com The effects of international travel, indulging, and battling these shoppers was starting to have an effect. Cory saved me by promising we only had two more stores to look at, which made the end in sight. In total, we had shopped for 7 hours, and I was done!!!

With Fred and his mate Steve
We returned to the boys, who had reduced in numbers, as some had gone back to the city. A quick freshen up, and we were off to dinner. Larry chose a gorgeous little place called "Noahs" which specialises in seafood.

fun group

Dinner was delicious with most of us having oysters, crab devilled eggs, and fresh scallops. All of the seafood was local, fresh, and absolutely delicious. It was a fun evening with lots of laughter and stories about the area, the people who live locally. We drove home past some of the businesses here that bear my name. I finished the night with a nice phone call to dear sistah in the pole shack. Glad to hear all is good there!!!
We also had a nice message from mark Flynn showing our hydrangeas are doing well in Fitzroy North. Thanks for looking after them Mark. We thought they had no chance when we saw the weather had been 32 degrees in MEL. With all that good news from home, and a heavy head, it was nighty nighty and a big snooze!!!!! zzzzzz.
